This is a large , finely bound and very handsome edition of The Holy Bible in very good condition. Full leather, stamped in blind, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorated in blind and gilt. There is some surface scuffing and wear to the leather at the joints, raised bands, edges and to the head and tail of the spine, as shown in the pictures provided.
Marbled endpapers with an attractive gift label to the front free endpaper dated 1874. Frontispiece with tissue guard. Decorative half-title page. Full title page. There is some browning and (water?) staining to the preliminary pages up to and including the half title page. This is superficial only and does not affect the text in any way. The text block from there onwards is predominently clean and bright with the occasional spot of foxing here and there. As is common there is foxing/browning to the illustrated pages.
There is a family register at p.992 with eight entries, all relating to the Squire family from 1861? (last two digits altered and not fully legible). The following page has a more extensive register of births and deaths. See images provided.
Overall a stunning bible, which is huge and weighs in at over 8.5kg.
