This was a very popular mid-Victorian anthology of the poets, entitled The Home Affections Pourtrayed (spelt according to the book) by the Poets. Selected and Edited by Charles Mackay. Published by George Routledge & Sons in 1866. Beautifully illustrated by a number of eminent artists. Engraved by the Brother's Dalziel. Bound in full Moroccan burgundy leather with a gilt design to the front cover and an elaborate gilt design to the spine, with gilt lettering. Five raised bands. The binding is in good condition. There is a little soiling which is ingrained into the leather, and some bumping to the corners, edges and to the head and tail of the spine. Beautiful marbled endpapers which are clean and bright. There is a crack to the endpaper at the front inner joint, but the binding remains solid. There is quite a hefty ink inscription dated 25th December 1865, to the front free endpaper, as shown in the photographs. The preliminary pages have some foxing, which lessens but does continue throughout the book. Occasionally there is a page which has more significant foxing. All edges gilt. Overall this is a beautiful book in good condition. It is solidly bound and fairly heavy. Measures 23cm x 17.5cm.
