1888 German Popular Stories (in English)

This is a lovely edition of German Popular Stories, Edited by Edgar Taylor. 
Undated but advertisements to the rear state 1888. Published by Chatto and Windus.
Beautifully illustrated after the original designs of George Cruikshank. 
Featuring an introduction by John Ruskin. 
Bound in green cloth with gilt lettering to the front cover and spine, and a facsimile signature of the illustrator George Cruikshank to the front cover. The boards are in good condition with some rubbing and bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine. Grey endpapers - there is a superficial crack to the hinge at the rear endpaper. Ink and pencil inscriptions to the half title page. The pages are lightly age toned with some light intermittent foxing. pp.335 + 32 pages of advertisements for books by the publisher.
