c.1894 Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne in 12 Volumes

The Works of Nathaniel Hawthorne.
This is a beautiful set of 12 volumes, published by Walter Scott Limited, 24 Warwick Lane, Paternoster Row.
n.d., c 1894. Matching set in green cloth stamped with silver and red after a design by Walter Crane.
An advertisement to the rear of each volume states the following:
'This edition will be printed on antique paper; each volume will contain a Frontispiece in Photogravure from drawings by T. Tyre Macklin and James Torrance. The cover for the volumes has been designed by WALTER CRANE. In Twelve Volumes, Crown 8vo. Price 2/6 per Vol. '
I have included a photograph of this advertisement for closer examination.
This set is in good condition. The boards are generally clean with some scuffing and a few marks, but nothing significant. There is some bumping to the edges, and there are signs of wear to the head and tail of each spine. The lettering and design remains clear and bright on each volume, with minimal fading.
Internally the contents are good. Some volumes have an inscription and most have a pencil mark detailing the price at that time. There is some age toning to the pages, with browning/foxing, predominantly to the endpapers. The page edges are rough. Top edge gilt.
Overall a stunning and very scarce set of books.
This set weighs 3.5 kg without packaging. Therefore - if you are outside of the UK and would like to purchase, please do get in touch. I will then calculate whether shipping is possible to your country and at what cost. Thank you.
