c.1921 Martin Pippin in the Apple Orchard by Eleanor Farjeon
This is a lovely vintage copy of Martin Pippin in the Apple Orchard by Eleanor Farjeon. n.d. Published c.1921 by W. Collins Son & Co. Ltd Beautifully illustrated by C. E Brock. This book is in good condition. Bound in beige cloth with a pictorial design and lettering in black to the front cover and spine. The boards are lightly soiled, with some bumping to the edges and corners. There is a little more wear to the head and tail of the spine, with minor fraying to the head and a superficial crack in the fabric to the upper rear joint. This book has lovely decorated endpapers which are free from inscriptions. The front pastedown must have had an owners sticker, half of which has now been removed. The first 5 pages appear to be more firmly attached at the inner joint, perhaps by just a few mm. I have included a photograph to demonstrate the slight pulling effect that this creates. This really is insignificant, as from the contents page onwards the binding feels 'normal.' There is a crack to the upper inner joint which is visible about three pages in, as shown in the photograph. This does not affect the binding though, as the book is solid with no loose pages. The pages are generally clean though lightly age toned. There is occasional foxing to the pages though nothing significant. There is a small tear measuring approx 1.5cm to the bottom of p.70. The illustrations are protected by tissue guards which have browned or have some foxing around the edges. All edges gilt. Weight 730g without packaging. Measures 23.5cm x 18cm. Overall a lovely and somewhat uncommon book, with stunning illustrations. Something for the collectors library!
