This is one of my favourite illustrated books of all time! I actively search for it because it is simply beautiful. I am always delighted to find a copy in very good condition, because without love and care, a book this big, particularly a children's book, could have been so easily damaged. 
Large format. Bound in original publishers pictorial boards with a red faux leather moveable spine, in  very good condition. There is some wear to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine and some minor surface soiling to the boards. The contents are very good - there is some age toning to the pages and a pencil inscription to the front pastedown, but they are otherwise clean and bright. 
 
The illustrations for this book are simply breath taking. This was the first book for the illustrator, whose name is actually Ann Mari Sjögren, and it was published in ten different languages. She went on to illustrate a further twenty or so books, and is now in her 80s. Please note that this book is huge! Measuring a whopping 47cm x 35.5cm.
