Bound in the original publisher's cloth which is elaborately decorated with gilt to both front board and spine. The bevelled boards are in very good condition with some light surface soiling, a small chip to the cloth at the rear joint and come rubbing/bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine. Yellow endpapers with a stamp to the front free endpaper for 'E. G. Rolph, Professor of Piano, Violin...' Superficial crack to the front hinge and partial cracking to the endpaper covering it. The contents are very good - lightly age toned with some foxing, most to the preliminary and endpapers. The tissue guard at p.521 has come loose and is sitting slightly proud of the other pages. Prolifically illustrated throughout. All edges gilt. Very heavy book. 3kg without packaging.
