Rare Boxed Set of Children's Classics. Complete with the original Box
This is a boxed set of children's classics which date from the 1930s, and which appear to have been sold as a set by The Daily Mail. They were published by William Clowes & Sons Ltd: London. Each book is in very good + condition, with only minor signs of wear. Whilst I have seen these books individually, I have never seen them as a complete set, or in such beautiful condition. The titles included are:
Andersen's Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen.
The Heroes by Charles Kingsley.
Alice's Adventures in Wonder and Through The Looking Glass.
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Gulliver's Travels by Dean Swift. (Jonathan Swift - referred to as Dean because of his position as Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.
Swiss Family Robinson by Johann Wyss.
Bound in a rainbow of different colours, these beautiful children's classics do not appear to have been read, or if they have, they've been handled with great care. Each volume has black lettering to the spine and a small vignette to the front cover. All volumes are clean and bright both externally and internally, with only the odd very minor spot of foxing here and then.
The six volumes are housed within a box featuring a blue swirl pattern. The box is complete and in one piece, but I would say it is fragile and needs handling with care. The complete set is then housed within the original postal box, which has a sticker on the lid stating 'Books with Care/Carriage Paid Home/...if undelivered, please return to 'The Daily Mail'...London.' This box remains relatively strong but the lid is detached. As such it will need handling with care in order to preserve it.
