Set of Eight [almost] Miniature Books of Poetry by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Set of Eight [almost] Miniature Books of Poetry by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

To a book collector, the miniature book should measure less than 3 inches, and these books are just over 3.5 inches, so not quite miniature! Never the less, they are beautiful little books and I feel strongly that they should be sold as a set as they are all by the same author, Ella Wheeler Wilcox.

This listing is for a set of SIX books plus two damaged duplicates that are included free of charge simply to keep the set together and because they look so lovely as a group. Each of the six books are priced at £15.00 each, plus two free. Details below:

-The blue 'Poems of Cheer' is a duplicate of the tan coloured book of the same title - in the blue version, the text block is partially detached from the binding.

-The red 'Poems of Love' is also a duplicate. The text block is detached from the binding and it is loosening. As such, it will require careful handling and perhaps some repair.

These books are bound a suede/suedette style in a range of muted colours. They are all a little worn around the edges with a few marks to the surface of the boards, but with the exception of the two books detailed above, they are all firmly bound and in good condition. They have marbled endpapers to match the colour of the binding, gilt edges and mildly age toned pages. The titles in the set are as follows:

Poems of Love x 2
Poems of Cheer x 2
Poems of Pleasure
Poems of Passion
Poems of Hope
Poems of Reflection

The publisher is named as either Siegle Hill & Co or Leopold B. Hill. I have sourced the following information about the publisher:

'The earliest dated Siegle, Hill & Co. publications have 1904 imprints. It's catalogs first appear in The Reference Catalogue of Current Literature (London) in 1910, then again in 1913 and 1920, while a 1924 cross reference directs to "Leonard B. Hill". It offered many novelty and miniature books, later a variety of pocket maps and dictionaries in several languages. Its offering in general literature were mostly reprint titles (often poetry) and verse anthologies.'[Thanks to The Lucille Project for this information]
