This is a lovely edition of The Golden Age, a collection of childhood reminiscences by Kenneth Grahame, the author of The Wind in the Willows. It was first published in 1895, and then again as an illustrated edition in 1899, bound in red cloth with a title page dated 1900, and featuring illustrations by Maxfield Parrish.

This is the 1904 edition, which contains new photogravure reproductions of the Parrish illustrations, including the title page dated 1900. It was published as a companion volume to Dream Days (1902).

This book is in good condition, bound in the original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front lettered in orange and black on a white background above an illustration of a castle by a river in gilt, green, and orange, within a single rule black border. The boards have some light surface wear/soiling and some rubbing and bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine. With two tone pictorial endpapers which are clean and bright. Ink inscription to verso of the front free endpaper. The first couple of pages, including the title page and frontispiece, feel slightly loose, though they remain bound. The contents are lightly age toned with the odd handling mark and spot of foxing, but overall clean and bright. Rough cut page edges and p.9 has a small tear to the outer edge of the page and an ink stain.
