This is a beautiful and attractive copy of the Carmine Edition of The Ingoldsby Legends, published by Richard Bentley & Son with the wonderful Illustrations by Cruikshank, Leech and Barham and featuring a decorative red border around the text.
Half bound in leather with green cloth boards, featuring five raised bands to the spine and gilt lettering over a burgundy title band to the spine. The boards are in very good condition with some minor rubbing to the extremities. There is a dark mark to the upper spine and a small chip to the leather to the lower spine. Beautifully marbled endpapers. There is an ink inscription dated Xmas 1916 to the flyleaf. The contents are very lightly age toned but otherwise beautifully clean and bright throughout. Featuring twenty illustrations on steel by Cruikshank, Leech and Barham. All edges marbled.
