A very handsome edition of this popular eighteenth century novel by Oliver Goldsmith. Bevelled boards in brown cloth featuring an attractive blue and gilt design to the front cover and gilt lettering to the cover and spine. The boards are in very good overall condition though there are some signs of wear. There is light surface soiling and some rubbing and bumping to the edges, corners and to the head and tail of the spine. Also a couple of small white marks to the lower edge of the front board and some of the blue colouring to the design on the front and spine has worn away. The contents are age toned with the odd hint of browning/foxing, and as is often the case the illustrations have left a shadow on the facing page. There is also a superficial crack to the endpapers at the rear hinge.
